Richard Wetenhall
Associate Director
Richard Wetenhall is an Associate Director with Gracechurch. He has a range of experience in consulting, as well as external experience in Banking and Technology. He works principally in the areas of Strategy, Marketing and Sales and has extensive knowledge and experience in change management and post-merger integration.
Richard has worked in strategy consulting, operations consulting and HR consulting. He was at McKinsey for seven years in the 1990’s, worked at Mercer as Sales and Marketing Director, and recently had a two year assignment with one of the large independent operations consulting firms. During this time he has managed large scale transformation programmes (he was the lead consultant on the retail bank transformation at RBS in the 1990s), comprehensive marketing and distribution strategies, new product development efforts, and sales performance improvements (at Mercer, new business sales were trebled over an 18 month period).
Richard was also Marketing and Strategy Director at Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) where he was on the Divisional Board of Corporate Banking and Financial Markets (CBFM), RBS’s largest division. His time there spanned the period when RBS bought and integrated NatWest, giving him first hand experience of the cultural and engagement challenges involved in pulling together two large institutions. Additionally he had a major influence over branding strategy after the takeover, making the key decisions about how the RBS and NatWest brands would be used, developing the ‘Make It Happen’ campaign for the RBS brand, and putting in place the branding and communication programme to change perceptions of RBS.
He has a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University.
